New Year Celebrations on Film: Jakarta City View and Tidung Island Beach

2013-01-24

I spend new year differently this year, and not like the previous one. Read about how I celebrated the coming of this new year!

This New Year’s Eve, my family spent it in a hotel in Senayan, Jakarta. The hotel is located near the Gelora Bung Karno, the international football stadium in Indonesia, and you can see it from the hotel room’s window. Also, you can see the the other sport stadium or field, for sports like Tennis, Softball, and other sport facilities. Beside those there are light from vehicles like cars, motorcycles, bus, decorated it also light from building around. it’s really beautiful.

City View from Century Park Athlete Hotel

It’s not only about the beautiful view. When the new year finally came at 00:00, the view was decorated with fireworks. It made the view more beautiful. However, it was raining so I could only see it from my hotel room but I was really happy I could take pictures of it with my Diana.

My new year happiness did not end there. In January 12-13 January, my friends from my college and I took a vacation in Tidung Island near Jakarta. After enjoying the city view, it was time to have fun on the sea and beach. Tidung Island has a beautiful beach, with a blue and clear sea. It’s wonderful.

There, we did not only play in the beach, but also enjoyed going around the island in bicycles. We also did snorkeling. It was my first time and I was really excited to see beautiful fishes and the views from the boat. You must go there and see it. I really want to go back there.

Those are my new year stories. How about you, what’s your story?

Long Exposures Around Europe with the Minitar-1 Art Lens

One of the things I like the most about the Minitar-1 Art lens is how sharp the focus can be when you shoot with a small aperture. So if you are one of those that like to shoot at night, get a tripod, add this to a late dark winter afternoon, and you will end up with a bunch of beautiful long exposures. This is what I did on my last trip to Europe.

    Trusty Bags for Trusty Cameras

We spend copious amounts of time stalking camera forums and researching specifications that "hunter" seems a more fitting term than "collector." And yet, when the time comes to pack all this game—the new or thrillingly ancient cameras—we DIY padding on the spot. (Guilty of trying to avoid the unappealing gear bag from the department store.) Last year though we stocked up on camera bags that are as cool as they are protective. Here are some of them.

Browsing through the Lomography website, you can find a lot of redscale shots, which are all done on color negative films. I asked myself if it’s possible to redscale a slide or chrome film and then cross process it. (And yes, it is.) In this tipster I’m going to teach you how to create the bloodiest homemade redscale film I've ever come across.
