Fuji Neopan 400 120: A Beast in Grey Tones

2012-12-12 2

I had this roll around me from nearly an year and never found time or a good excuse to use it. The day I decided to load it into my Lubitel 166b was a cold, rainy day typical of autumn.

It’s a good practice to use fast film in cloudy or rainy days, that was my chance to use this film!
This is a fast film, black and white, for professional purposes, so I thought some testing in different lighting conditions.

This film is very fine grain and can be pushed to 3200 ISO very easily, but for me, being the first time i used that film, i shot at box speed.

Out in the streets performs greatly in large spaces and good lighting like in this photos:

In backlighting i found it really bad:

But while going around the time passed and the night finally arrived, so i moved home and decided to shot some interiors. In bright interiors it performs really well, like in this picture i made at the supermarket

but in home lighting quite disappoints me:

and to end the roll i made this 5 second long exposure:

So, my conclusion for this film is that is a light hungry emulsion, fine grain ever in bad lighting conditions.
I think this film would perform greatly in good light or with flash lighting, but i admit i did this test with the worst lighting conditions ever!

Don’t be discouraged by my review, grab a roll of this film and give it a try!

(this roll have been developed at home with Xtol, diluition 1+1 20°C for 9 minutes and 40 seconds)
