Christmas Market at Leeds Corn Exchange

2012-12-06

Last weekend, I discovered a wonderful Christmas craft market in Leeds Corn Exchange, and the good news is, it is back in a fortnight’s time!

The Corn Exchange is one of Leeds’ most spectacular buildings and one that holds a lot of markets and events throughout the year including vinyl fairs, markets, craft stalls, and so on. At the moment, there is a big focus on all things Christmas-y and the Corn Exchange, not wanting to be left out is hosting a lovely market full of Christmas goodies.

The huge Christmas tree and other bits of decoration in the building are worth a look as they really make one feel like the holiday season is upon us. Also, the shops in the Corn Exchange are excellent as they are all independent local traders rather than huge multi national chain shops.

Here are a couple of photos from Candy Candy – my favourite store.

The market was all around the sides in front of the regular stores and sold all kinds of Christmas goodies, including hampers, children’s knitted Christmas jumpers, and tree decorations and more. I really recommend a visit to this market if you are in town and want some gifts and crafts.

The Corn Exchange is located at the top of Call Lane in Leeds City Centre, and the next time the Christmas Market is on will be on Saturday, 15th December.

The Art of Picture Taking: An Interview with Filmmaker Catherine Dauphin

At the time of its inception, photography was considered less a fine art and more a scientific method of reproduction. But anyone who has dabbled in the craft will argue otherwise; that there consists a very specific artistry in the photographic medium. We spoke with Luxembourg-based filmmaker Catherine Dauphin about her thoughts on this wonderful art form. Join us as she answers some of our questions about film, photography, and her short film titled "The Art of Picture Taking."

How to Develop Photos on Stone in a Darkroom

I have always loved the idea of seeing my photos on stone and other natural materials. So, a few months ago, I began googling how it could be done. This is how I discovered (and fell in love with) liquid emulsion. Liquid emulsion is photographic emulsion which you can melt down and paint on any surface. You can then expose an image and develop it using traditional darkroom chemicals. In this article, I would like to explain the process a little, so that if you are also interested in giving this fun process a go, you can!
