How I Photograph Kids

2012-11-20 1

I don’t have a lot of experience on doing photo shoots, but the few times I have I photographed my niece who is now 4 years old, and I’m going to tell you what I do so she doesn’t get tired of me…

Taking photos of children is a difficult task because it’s not funny for them to stand still, obey commands and smile or do any face that the photographer asks for. They are not like that!! What does a kid want? Play all the time… so let’s play we take photos!

My nieces is a very restless girl and taking photos of her hasn’t been easy. I’m going to tell you how I did the first session with her a year ago.

We went to one of her favorite parks and we started playing with the leaves of the trees, with her umbrella, the little ducks in the pond… and between every game I took her photos while moving around her until I found the angle that I liked. Some good ones:

Ans some of them not so good because of her restlessness and my lack of experience.

The conclusion of my experience are summed up in a few points:

  • Patience
  • Making them see that it’s a game and not a photo shoot.
  • Take into consideration that they move a lot.
  • Know clearly that when they get tired, it’s over!

I hope I have been helpful! LOMO ON!!
