The First Lomography World Congress: Madrid

2012-11-09 1

Say “¡Hola!” to the first Lomography World Congress that was held in Spain back in 1997! With a 120 m LomoWall installed at Madrid’s Atocha Train Station, 80,000 people joined in on the overload of creativity and culture as photographs and flamenco moves were put on show!

Once you’ve put up the first LomoWall and pulled off an exhibit between two major cities (say, Moscow and New York), you start to think of ideas for the next big analogue occasion!

In October 1997, the first Lomography World Congress took place in one of the busiest exchanges of Spain, Madrid’s Atocha Train Station. With a 120 m long LomoWall containing 35,000 photographs made available for public viewing, the ten-day event drew a crowd of nearly 80,000 spectators!

Not only was it an event for creative types to showcase their work (that year saw aggregated images from the Lomography Embassies all over the world) and engage in photography discussions, it was also a cultural event for anyone who wanted to explore the city, enjoy some tapas, and learn flamenco moves!

Lomography continues to organize international conferences, local events, and weekly workshops for its community members to truly immerse themselves in the analogue lifestyle, and will keep on doing so for years to come!
