Lomography community member Satomi was one of our trusted testers for the Belair X 6-12. If you’re interested in finding out why she’s head over heels this new medium format camera just read on. There’s also some never before seen Belair X 6-12 photos in there!
What do you like most about the Belair X 6-12?
I think anyone who’s used or will use Belair X 6-12 will all agree that the best thing about this camera is the auto exposure function. I’ve always wanted to get a medium format camera that does auto exposure, but they are too expensive and I was never able to afford them. I never, ever imagined there would be a camera with such function that cost so low for what it does!
Which do you feel is the feature which makes it stand out the most from the rest of the Lomography cameras?
Again, like I said, the auto exposure, but not only that the Belair X 6-12 offers 3 format to choose from, which is quite uncommon compared to other Lomography cameras or even any other medium format cameras. I guess you can compare it to LC-Wide which also offers auto exposure and 3 formats, but now the difference is the price!
Which of the 3 editions do you prefer? Why?
Hmm, I am such a sucker for “limited edition”, so Globetrotter is pretty appealing to me, but then the simple, slickness of the City Slicker and the retro look of the Jetsetter are also hard to pass….but I always go for the black ones to be safe with anything, so after putting the price into consideration, I would probably go with the Jetsetter! (Phew, that was a hard decision!)
Which of the 3 shooting formats do you find yourself most comfortable with?
6×6! I just LOVE the square! Square format makes the image 10x cooler in my opinion and also I can get more shots on one roll, but when I’m doing landscape, 6×9 and 6×12 are definitely the ones I always go for.
Who is the guy in the gold pants? The community is positively crazy about him!
Hahahahaha! :D Sexy, isn’t he? He is my friend, Patrick and is actually no stranger to Lomography himself. His lomography name is lomosexual_manboy and I did a bit of a make-over for some fun photo shoot, but let me tell you, those gold pants ARE his own belongings. I must say he does live up to his own user name!
Any tips and recommendations?
This might sound like a tip for beginners, but don’t forget to change the distance setting! I forgot a few times and ruined shots that could have turned out really well. This camera gives you some super crisp images as long as you are shooting at the right distance!
Why should Lomographers get the Belair X 6-12?
Did you even need to ask? ;) All the functions, quality, the look, and the reasonable pricing…however you look at it, this is a camera you can NOT pass!
If you could take this Jetsetter anywhere in the world, where would you pick and what would you shoot?
Well, since my first-ever Euro trip is coming up in a few weeks; I will be definitely taking it with me! I can’t wait to take pictures of my friends and beautiful cityscape/landscape there!
Anything interesting happened whilst shooting with the Belair X 6-12 which you’d like to share with other members of the community?
Well, when I was shooting, many people asked me what kind of camera it was and since it was a top secret at the time, I would tell them it’s some vintage camera and no one ever doubted my answer. Now, that goes to show you how classy this little guy is!
The Belair X 6-12 is available for pre-order until 10th December 2012 (or until stocks run out). By pre-ordering, you can save up to 30% on the launch price – but don’t delay; only limited stocks are available.
