The Canadian Chihuahua Rescue and Transport x Lomography Canada!

2012-10-19 1

The Canadian Chihuahua Rescue and Transport (CCRT) is a group of volunteers working together to rescue, foster and provide necessary veterinary care for homeless, abandoned and neglected Chihuahuas across Canada. Your heart melting yet?! Volunteer and coordinator Judith brought her two fur-babies, McGee and Gucci, to the LGS Toronto to check us out and give us some more insight about this great organization.

Judith is a film and TV producer by day, Chihuahua rescuer by night! After her business and life partner was diagnosed with cancer and passed away, she was looking to find the “happy” in her regular day again. She decided to live everyday like her last, and having wanted a Chihuahua for almost 15 years, now was the time to act! McGee joined Judith as a 15 week old, spastic, goofy looking, pound and a half weeny ball of wonder and has been with her since August 2010. McGee has traveled everywhere around the world with Judith on her screening tours, in purses, carriers and even coat pockets!

Judith & McGee, letting out a big yawn!

Another furry friend that came by that day was Gucci Stringbone, the newest addition to Judith’s family. Gucci came to Judith in a trio of Chihuahuas from Montreal. He was sick with kennel cough and had pretty much all of this teeth pulled because they were rotted. He even came close to a full coma! After a long course of careful feeding, monitoring, considered exercise and more careful watching, Judith was able to nurse him back to health, and she and McGee fostered him back to a happy little Chihuahua! Soon enough, Gucci became McGee’s permanent bro-chi and Judith graduated to being an official CCRT adopter.

Gucci was a bit tired….

Volunteers at the CCRT, like Judith offer many foster homes to adoptable dogs. Many are puppy mill survivors, victims of marriage break-ups and strays picked up by animal services. Because Chihuahuas are so much smaller in size and also just a very unique breed of dog, they require special attention and care which is why the CCRT is necessary. Being a foster parent is extremely rewarding, but at the same time, it is hard to give up the dogs you foster, as Judith mentions. But, it’s all for a great cause! “To watch an aggressive dog overcome and join other doggie chums in a playdate is enough to make you remember your own childhood. And to place a dog in a home where the family is overjoyed, and so appreciative, and thrilled and happy and ecstatic – well, that’s the gift that keeps on giving!” says Judith.

We had an absolute blast hosting Judith and her pups at the store – they entertained us quite a bit too! We captured a few tricks, some petting and a lot of paw shakes!

So why are we telling you about all this? Well, the CCRT will be teaming up with us at Lomography Canada to bring you analogue life from a Chihuahua’s point of view! I’m sure there are plenty of animal lovers out there and this is our way of showing our LomoLove to the CCRT and also bringing some super cute photos and stories to you guys!

Stay tuned for some fisheye fun, Chi-lovers!
