Born in Iran, raised in Hong Kong, and currently based in Singapore, Steve Lawler is the man behind MOJOKO, which he founded in 2005 as a reaction to people overusing the computer. Working with all kinds of mediums, from silkscreen to plastics, MOJOKO’s La Sardina DIY, the “Camera Man”, is enough to make us go loco!
As the Creative Director of Kult3D, Steve is involved in projects across Asia both commercially and experimentally; expressing his thoughts through various unorthodox artists’ tools such as his own magazine, Kult, as well as guerilla exhibitions, sculptures and fashion projects.
HIS LA SARDINA DIY
MOJOKO’s “Camera Man” is an amalgamation of nasty b-movies, cult toons, bots formed of collective memory and celluloidal fantasies. With legs made of ‘steel’ and looks that could kill, you wouldn’t wanna get on the wrong side of this big bad mean mother of a bot.
AN INTERVIEW WITH MOJOKO
Hear from the man behind the “Camera Man” – his inspiration behind it, the thought processes that go into his practice, and his virgin experience with taking a camera apart!
