Plasticfantastic LomoKino and Community LomoAmigo Marjanbuning

An artist from roots to education, we have got a girl who is passionate for her craft and for the ever appealing analogue photography!

You sure see aliens in her LomoHome but that’s her creativity doing all the awesome work. Coming from The Netherlands, it’s time we meet Marjan or marjanbuning as she tells all her glorious LomoKino adventures!

Tell us about yourself. What do you do for a living? What are your interests?

I am an artist, I studied photography at the Fotovak School in the Netherlands. And in my spare time I build sculptures from stuff that other people have thrown away. I love art. I also collect kitschy souvenirs from countries and places where I never will go; they all hang in my toilet. The criteria to hang there is: the more awful the better. I also love music, I have a record player and I like to search at flea markets for records.

How long have you been a Lomographer and how did you find out about the Community?

When I was 15 years old I took my first pictures with my Father’s OM 30 camera. After that I was hooked on analogue photography. Every day I took my camera and went outside, on my bike, to photograph the landscape and the people that I met.

I photograph for more than 20 years now. When I was 21, I quit my day time job working in a museum. I decided to persuade my true passion becoming an artist. During my photography studies in 2004-2006 I was introduced to digital cameras but after, I turned back on analogue photography and I never looked back .

I did not want to carry my heavy medium format camera; the Mamiya C330 all the time and I was looking for a long time for a camera that I felt comfortable with. I went on a trip to Paris in 2008 and found a Holga camera at the Centre de Pompidou and the Holga fitted all the criteria of the camera I was searching for. When I came home from Paris I joined the Community in 2008!

Describe the LomoKino in five words.

How did you like shooting with the LomoKino?

Wonderful! I wanted for a long time to shoot movies the old school way and the LomoKino is easy to use and you can almost buy film for this camera everywhere!

What or who has inspired you to purchase and use the LomoKino?

When Lomography introduced the LomoKino online I tried my luck to get my hands on this camera. I wanted it so bad!

Any funny or strange encounters you’ve had with it?

Lately when I shoot with the LomoKino a alien appears suddenly in most of my Lomokino movies which is very strange… People in my hometown are always interested with the LomoKino. I always take the time to explain it. And most of the time they wonder why I don’t use a digital movie camera. But they see the fun I have with it.

If you could shoot any person alive or dead (or imaginary) with your LomoKino, who would it be and why?

I wish I had the opportunity to make a LomoKino movie with my grandfather. He was a very good amateur photographer but he died before I was born. I think he would be so enthusiastic about this camera.

Kindly share to us any LomoKino movie you love the most.

I like the LomoKino movie (I think it was made by suzielomovitz) where somebody walks around with a horse head. I really like absurd and surrealistic movies.

Any future plans with your LomoKino? More shoots or a full-length film perhaps?

I want to make a very long LomoKino movie: The alien roadtrip I have started shooting and the first scenes are ready to see at my LomoHome.

Your advice to future LomoKino users.

Just start shooting and do not give up! And look at the tutorials by Lomography, they helped me a lot!
