Many are most likely more familiar with the 2005 film starring Johnny Depp, so for this week’s feature, we thought of bringing back the spotlight to the 1971 musical film adaptation. Have you forgotten about it? Join us and look back at the scrumdidilyumptious film based on Roald Dahl’s classic children’s book after the jump!
Today, we’re celebrating the birthday of Roald Dahl, the British author behind the 1964 children’s classic book, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. We had to break the tradition of bringing Midweek Movies every Wednesday so we can make a fitting tribute to the book, the brilliant mind behind it, and of course, its very first big screen adaptation!
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory tells the story of Charlie Bucket (Peter Ostrum), a poor boy who finds one of the five Golden Tickets hidden by local candy maker Willy Wonka (Gene Wilder) inside his Wonka Bars. Aside from winning a lifetime supply of chocolate, Charlie joins four other children for a full tour inside Willy Wonka’s tightly guarded candy factory. But, it turns out that the charismatic candy maker has something bigger in store for the children—especially for the one who gets to pass his test.
If you have forgotten about it, you can watch the trailer right here, or maybe you’d rather sing along to one of the musical film’s best known parts: Willy Wonka singing “Pure Imagination!”
