Autumn Leaves All Around: My Lomographic History with Fallen Leaves

The wind is getting colder and the leaves are starting to drop, it’s beginning to feel a lot like fall. This will be my third real fall season. Coming from Australia, the land of the evergreen, I love being able to experience the beautiful colors and these lomographs are a recount of my past two fall seasons.

My first real fall I was living in Halifax, in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia. On Remembrance Day, we went on a picnic with friends and this was the very first time I used my first Lomography camera, a Holga! I loved the results and to this day, I think that they were some of my favorite images shot with that camera! I still remember the feeling of not having to worry about being buried in leaves because normally if I was to do that at home in Australia, you would have to worry about poisonous spiders.

The next fall I was living in London, Ontario and this was when I was starting to get really into Lomography as I had just got a Colorsplash camera (still one of my faves) I documented my move to the new city thoroughly, and was pleasantly surprised at the results I could get from Xpro film, especially with the Coloursplash as it really accentuates all the colors.

This is still one of my favorite images of all time, and also one of the most popular in my lomohome. I don’t think when I was taking it that I had any idea what a lasting image it would be for me. I took a bunch of night-time fall photos but the third photo in this lot was pretty much the only one that really came out.

This is my "Fallin’ Beginnings’ series that I also did while living in London, Ontario all taken with my Polariod 600 camera and Impossible Film. If you would like to find out more, I wrote a whole article about the series here.

I’m looking forward to this season for being able to capture the changes of the seasons with my lomography cameras in a different way compared to what I’ve done in the past two years.
