Traveling in 360 Degrees: With the Lomo Spinner 360

2012-09-03

The Spinner 360 captures everything around you and shows people right where you were in the middle of the action. Whether I’m traveling or just going to the market, it always comes with me so I can show others what was going on around me wherever I was. It’s the ultimate ‘put yourself in my shoes’ camera!

Taking a break from the winding mountain road.

The first thing that always comes to mind when I’m about to leave for a trip is, which cameras are coming with me? When I travel, I like to take photographs that capture what I’m feeling at the moment, I push the shutter button or in this case, pull the ripcord…

The Lomo Spinner 360 is always in my bag because it can do something that no other camera I own can do. It puts the viewer in my shoes! When I’m showing other people my photos or trying to explain to them where I was and what was around me, they can actually get a feel of the place I’m describing. Never been to Vegas? Hey, here I am right in the middle of the strip; there’s Caesars, The Mirage, and there’s me right in the center of it all.

Right in the middle of the Vegas Action!

It’s simple to use unlike some of my other more complicated film cameras and I can shoot from the hip, over my head or upside down and never have to think about focusing or framing. It captures basically everything with one sweeping motion.

It’s awesome to be out with friends and get them all in the shot without having to get a stranger to take the picture or have to set a self-timer and run into the shot.

One of my favorite things about Lomo products is that when you get your film back (or develop it yourself), they have that dreamy, warm Lomo effect. It makes all your memories of that moment seem even better and more lucid than you remember when it happened. Personally, it gives me a nostalgic feeling for that time and that place and with the Spinner 360, that is intensified even more because it puts you inside the moment.

That Lomo dreamscape magic

The Lomo Spinner 360 is definitely my favorite Lomo camera of the moment and I have a little project involving some DIY that I hope to have underway very shortly. It’s a camera that inspires creativity and just seeing it makes you want to pick it up and make something marvelous. You never know exactly what you’re going to get but isn’t that what analogue photography is all about? I think it’s unlike any other camera out there and truly a must-have for any aspiring Lomographer.

Some of my favorite shots so far.

The Spinner 360° goes beyond the confines of standard panoramic cameras. See everything around you (literally!), and be swept away by truly spectacular results. Head to our Online Shop and get your own Spinner 360°!

    Tipster: DIY X-Pro Redscale

Browsing through the Lomography website, you can find a lot of redscale shots, which are all done on color negative films. I asked myself if it’s possible to redscale a slide or chrome film and then cross process it. (And yes, it is.) In this tipster I’m going to teach you how to create the bloodiest homemade redscale film I've ever come across.

How to Develop Photos on Stone in a Darkroom

I have always loved the idea of seeing my photos on stone and other natural materials. So, a few months ago, I began googling how it could be done. This is how I discovered (and fell in love with) liquid emulsion. Liquid emulsion is photographic emulsion which you can melt down and paint on any surface. You can then expose an image and develop it using traditional darkroom chemicals. In this article, I would like to explain the process a little, so that if you are also interested in giving this fun process a go, you can!
