Fisherman’s Cove is a Lomographer’s paradise, and it amazes me how much you can escape from the city with only a 25-minute drive from the city of Halifax in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia. I’ve eaten some of the best fish and chips of my life here, and you will be able to turn and shoot in any direction!
Fisherman’s Cove in the eastern passage is both frozen in time and constantly evolving. I loved that from my first visit there over two years ago, I was able to retake the same shots, this time with my film cameras, but was also able to explore the new things in the stores. It is nestled in a centuries’ old fishing community, and is home to a unique collection of gift shops, museums and art galleries, delicious restaurants, coffee and bake shops, ice cream canteens and fish and chip shacks.
Wharf Wraps is an amazing restaurant at Fisherman’s Cove. I have only ever had the fish and chips there but that’s because they are amazing with a crunchy batter and large serving. The restaurant is centrally located at Fisherman’s Cove and there is a large car park for visitors. Once, we even lined up for an hour to get into the place on a warm Saturday night.
Fisherman’s Cove also supports eco tourism, putting the focus on appreciation of the natural environment, with an emphasis on sustainability and conservation. At Fisherman’s Cove they have amazing shops and an affordable community center for rental, but what sets them apart is the location, with beautiful natural scenery, and an authentic fishing community, all with being less than half an hour drive from the city!
