London 2012 and Hyde Park Live Site

In London 2012, you didn’t have to have tickets to an event to be part of the action – there were fun free events all over the city for people to get involved.

For London 2012, BT sponsored a number of live sites across the city where people could go and view the sports on big screens and see live music and generally enjoy a bit of the festival atmosphere. We visited the live site at Hyde Park on Saturday August 3, 2012 when we were in London for the Olympics.

We were lucky that when we arrived, McFly were playing on the main stage (or unlucky depending on how you look at it – fortunately I was very drunk at this point so I was stupidly excited to be there and see them!). The atmosphere was electric and although it was busy, we got a great view and the bar as close by. The whole place felt a lot like a festival, with music, beer tents, food stalls and loads of people having a great time. It was also possible to watch smaller unsigned bands on a little stage, which is where I spent quite a bit of my afternoon/evening. There was a lot of patriotism going on at the park and it felt really exciting to be a part of it.

There were also big screens so you could watch all the sporting action live from the Olympic Park – and this is where I watched GB’s own Mo Farrah run his way to a gold medal in the 10,000 meters. Then, there was just time to see another band – St Etienne – before leaving at 11pm kicking out time.
