Gymnastics is a timeless Olympic sport. Here you can see some pictures taken during the feast at the end of the season of a prestigious Italian sport club, the “Ginnastica Comense.”
Gymnastics is a choreographic sport, which requires total body control, agility and power. Every year there is in Casnate con Bernate (near Como) a feast of the prestigiuos Italian club of “Ginnastica Comense”. This sports club has received many national and international awards in basket, gymnastic and fencing. This article is dedicated to gymnastics.
Gymnastic sports are divided in two important branches: artistic and rhythmic. The first one is different for men and women. The women compete in four specialties: uneven bars, balance beam, floor exercise, and vault, the men in floor exercise, pommel horse, still rings, vault, parallel bars, and high bar.
On the other hand rhythmic gymnastics is performed with the use of five apparatus on a floor: ball, ribbon, hoop, clubs, rope, with a much greater emphasis on the aesthetic aspect of the exercise rather than the acrobatic one.
Another speciality is trampoline, and since 2000, individual trampoline has been included in the Olympic Games.
These pictures were taken using an Ilford Delta 3200 film pushed to ISO 12800. To contain the grain size I used the Ilford Microphen developer in stock solution.
The camera used was my old Praktica MTL 5 with an Helios 44M-4 (58mm/f2) and a Takumar 105/2,8 as lenses.
Have fun with gymnastics!
