Representing the Solomon Islands in Men’s Judo, Tony Lomo definitely has our full support! While he won his first qualifying match, he is no longer in the running for an Olympic medal this year. We’ve still got our eyes on him for the 2016 Olympics though. Lomo on, Tony Lomo!
Being an international community for low-fi lovers, we can’t pick just one team to cheer for at the 2012 Olympic Games. But if we had to pick an athlete to root for, it would have to be Tony Lomo!
“LONDON (Reuters) – Solomon Islands’ Tony Lomo beat Mozambique’s Neuso Sigauque in the Olympic men’s judo 60kg last 32 at the 2012 London Games on Saturday (July 28, 2012). Lomo won 0100-0010 at ExCeL in London to reach the next round.”
Watch Lomo in action below!
“It took Lomo just 3:16 to defeat his Mozambican competitor, sealing the win with an ippon, the highest score possible and therefore ensuring he progressed through to the final 16. Although his match against Sigauque showed class and immense promise, Lomo was unable to progress to the quarterfinals. It was a meeting with Frenchman Sofiane Milous that ended the Olympic dream for the Soloman Islander for another four years, as he was defeated 20-1. Although this time unsuccessful, there are vastly encouraging signs for the 28 year old and perhaps 2016 will prove to be a more successful year for this judoka.”
And we’ll still be rooting for him then. Good job, Tony Lomo! :-)
