The 5 Most Memorable Photos of Stray Cats that I Took

2012-07-24 5

I assume we all have taken photos of stray animals. It is as if taking photos of these creatures is an essential part of being a lomographer. I too share this trait, so in this article I will tell the story of the five most memorable photos of stray cats in my analogue life.

Today I saw that I have already reached my 1,111th photo upload, and I decided to look back on the photos I took. I saw that I have lots of photos of stray animals, most especially, cats. Mysteriously, these stray cats are always present in those important parts of my analogue life. Because of my surprise, I decided to give them names and so here it goes…

1. Tyra, the redscaled cat
Walking like a model in the streets of Manila, Tyra was the first cat that I have ever captured on film. So many firsts for this photo, my first lomowalk, first time to use redscale. And this day was also the first time I met other lomographers like icuresick, skyphos, jurisprudence and stitch.

2. Milky, the cat in the park
Milky was a stray cat in the Ninoy Aquino Parks and wildlife. The day I took this photo was the First Anniversary “peekneek” of our group Shutter Revolution. A very fun day, and I can say one of the most memorable of all SR activities in the first half of this year, so much food, so much giveaways, so many friends! This event opened my mind to a bigger world in Lomography, this is where I personally met superkulisap, feelux, renenob, hans12, boobert, projectsnap and many others.

3. Momsy, the pregnant cat
Lying carefree in the parking lot of a souvenir shop in Bohol, Momsy was one of the most adorable of all the stray cats that I have ever met and I couldn’t resist taking a photo of her. I believe that our Bohol vacation is one of the best I had with my family. This was also the very first vacation that I covered in analogue. To find out more about our vacation you can read this article.

4. Anubis, the cemetery cat
Anubis is the Greek name of the jackal-headed god associated with mummification and the afterlife in the ancient Egyptian religion according to Wikipedia. I gave the cat that name because I think the cat is closely associated with death. Firstly because this was taken in a public cemetery, secondly, because this was the roll loaded in my Canon EOS when we have gone to Batangas for my Lola’s wake.

And lastly,

5. Shi the city cat
This photo of Shi was taken when feelux and I had a lomowalk in Makati. I found this cat in a small park in the center of Makati. And I will always remember this day, the day I lost the lens cap of my Lubitel 166B. It was very devastating. When I got home, I can’t help but look for a replacement and luckily I found one in eBay for $15, a bit expensive, but I was desperate. After a month, I picked up my package from the post office, the lens cap came straight from Ukraine. I felt very happy not just because I have a replacement for the lens cap but also because of the very analogue feel of picking up a postage that came from another country.

I guess stray cats will always be a part of my life. Although I’m allergic to cats, I will always try my best to take their photos and be as friendly as possible to them.
