Who's Next 2012 Interviews: Thia One

Thia One is one of the four artists who held a workshop to customize the La Sardina DIY edition at this year’s Who’s Next trade show. Learn more about her through this little interview!

Name : THIA ONE
Web Site : page Facebook

Hello! Can you introduce yourself in a few words ?
My name is THIA ONE. If I had to describe my style, I would say it comes from old school graffiti from the heart of 80s New York and comics. My work is colorful, with recurring characters like “HomeBoy” and “HomeGirl”.

What are your favourite working techniques? Which materials are you used to work with ?
I like spray paint, it is my number one medium and the best for a wall, but I adapt depending on the surface. I also use acrylic paint, Posca, roller pen, markers…

What are your sources of inspiration ?
Comics and Manga like Cobra for its black and white futuristic scenery. I am also inspired by cartoons; I love Miyazaki for «Spirited Away”, cinema and music!

How will deal with the customization of our camera La Sardina? Do you have some ideas?
I think I’ll do a very graffiti Sardina!

If you could go where ever you want with this camera and a roll of film, where would you go and what would you shoot ?
I would go to Conakry in Guinea, my dad’s village, shoot the houses and the life of the inhabitants.

Thank you Thia One.

With the new La Sardina DIY Edition you can have it all your own way! Put your artistic talent to good use and decorate it any way you want. Thanks to the interchangeable panels and special ink permeable material, letting your imagination loose on the La Sardina DIY couldn’t be more fun!

Cinematographer Michal Dabal on the Petzval Lens

Here’s what happens before we interview a photographer. We gush about the work though we have yet to find out the cameras and processes behind the brilliant composition or the light architecture. And even when they haven’t used a Lomo camera, we feature them anyway. But every once in a while comes a pro who uses one of our premium lenses at work and our fun cameras off-duty. This makes us mighty glad, more so when their images are good and worth sharing. We count cinematographer Michal Dabal's work among them.
