Workshop Highlights: Introduction to Pinhole Lomography

On a lovely Saturday in July at the Lomography Gallery Store Gramercy in NYC, 6 excited Lomographers joined the staff to learn how to capture the magical photographs that come from Pinhole Photography. We used our beloved Diana F+ with the pinhole feature, and learned all we needed to know to shoot some of the most dreamy photographs possible, before setting out to explore with neighborhood with our newly acquired pinhole skills.

What: Introduction to Pinhole Lomography
When: Saturday, July 7th, 2012 @ 2pm
Where: Madison Square Park (via the Lomography Gallery Store Gramercy)
Camera: Diana F+ Pinhole Feature
Technique: Pinhole Photography and Long Exposure

We took a leap back into the past and experimented with Pinhole photography! This lens-less form of photo making predates back to old times. Far, far back. Back into the golden ages of drawing and landscape painting, before the invention of a portable camera or lens.

After sitting down and talking about the history of this type of photography and how it works, we set out to shoot.

We chose to bring the lovely Diana F+ along, for she is built for such creative endeavors. With her tiny F-stop and valued B-setting, we set off for Madison Square Park.

The weather was beautiful and super bright so we were lucky enough to get great images with very short exposures! The park had a trippy art installation throughout it. There were lumpy, colorful, climb-able (I was tempted to climb on them!) pieces of interactive sculpture. The sculptures made animal sounds when anyone stepped close to them! It was awesome, and we had a blast shooting around other park goers equally as intrigued as we were.

We created some surreal and super-dreamy photographs that day!
