Diana Mini Missions & Half-Frame Stories

Half-Frame photography allows you to take two individual pictures side-by-side and one after another on the same 35mm frame! Our mission to you is to get as creative as possible with this exciting feature and show us what kind of instant stories you can create in Half-Frame! Snap polar opposites like a cowboy and punk, or before and after shots of caterpillar to butterfly. Maybe create a drama with the image of a pair of bare feet next to the image of broken high heels. Who knows, the potential is only limited to your imagination. You can try to plan these but we fully recommend that you kick back and just shoot like crazy. Couldn't wait any longer. I have one on order. A bit disappointed that it might not be able to do pinholes, but all the other features make this a must have.

I gotta say it's a welcome upgrade from the Lomo Meccano. Wish the Diana lenses were compatable, but that would be hard to do. Guess you can just hold them in front and experiment.

Naturally it doesn't come with a flash.. arggg at you LOMO. Is the regular Diana flash compatible or do I have to start this flash bs all over again?

@ouroborosx: you can use the switch on the back while there's a film inside? mhh didn't work so far :) but maybe it's just because I haven't used the switch often by now.

Wow - half frame and full frame on the same roll. Now I don't have to spend hours on ebay drooling over the old Konica Auto-Reflexes that come up and always cost a bundle (and weigh a ton). I'd love to know how well it works - and what the neg looks like when you're switching between formats......

36 shots for sqare format? the same amount as 24*36mm.?
something doesn't right here.

normally a 35mm. sqare format camera (for example, tenax or taxona) can shoot up 50 shots per roll because each shot take area on film lesser than a full-frame camera, therefore less film advance for each shot.

If this info is correct. Is this the camera will produce a large unexpose space between each shot?

the camera has stops for square format and stops for half frame format... each square shot's stop is a full 36mm frame advance, leaving blank space on the roll between shots... this is necessary for film labs to be able to process the film in their machines... BUT, if you are someone who scans their own negatives, you can advance the film as much or as little as you want from frame to frame... you won't be following the stops, but if you get good at it, you won't need them... then you can get more shots on your frame and scan your own negative... so you have the option! :)

@adi_totp: It is not compatible with Diana+ lenses.

@mandashitely: You can also buy the Diana F+ Flash adapter which is much less expensive than a Diana F+ Flash and allows you to use any standard hot shoe flash.

@graefin: You can switch at any time, but if you switch after you have wound, you could end up with overlapping pictures - not necessarily a bad thing. Also, as soon as you switch in the middle of a roll you're pretty much committing to scan the negatives yourself or take it to a pro shop that knows what they're doing.

@kvboyle: The format switch does two things. It moves some shutters that make the opening the right size for either half frame or square format. Just think of those shutters in the phony panoramic cameras that chop off the top and the bottom of the picture, but these are upright. The switch also changes how much the film advance wheel will move the film before it stops on the next frame. Using the switch in the middle of the roll will mess with the spacing between frames.

@alexandrak: Turning the film advance doesn't cock the shutter. The shutter is always ready to fire.

@lomollete: You can easily multiple-expose. The shutter release button cocks and releases the shutter in one motion and you can use it at any time. Just press the shutter release and the shutter will fire.

I used my first roll and when I went to check up on my Diana Mini, I noticed that my switch where you can choose to shoot with half frame or square frame format was broken! Something was jamming it and stopping me from moving the switch. Any help? :(
