When Electronic Beats asks you if you want to join a party you don’t say no, especially not when legendary New Order are opening their exhibition at .HBC Berlin. Thus the Lomography Berlin crew hit the road in order to party with the band and admire the work of Kevin Cummins & Peter Saville.
The New Order-centred art show will be open to the public daily from 6 to 11pm (closed on Sundays and Mondays), documenting the band’s decade-spanning career with works by fellow companions, with more than 30 photographs by Kevin Cummins as well as all New Order record covers and artworks by designer Peter Saville.
On June 20th music magazine Electronic Beats celebrated the exhibition opening together with New Order as well as Kevin Cummins and Peter Saville. The band and both artists were answering questions about the photographs and cover artworks shown in the exhibition as well as earlier photos of Joy Division. For me as a big Joy Division fan it was a very special night, not only have I met the founding members, but also two talented artists who helped that the band became what it is today – a legend.
During the interview it was remarkable that everyone was so natural without any affections. They were answering the questions in a humorous and charming way and it was fun watching how they made jokes about each other. You’ve noticed that the main reason for their successful long-lasting collaboration is their friendship which lasts for over 30 years now.
Until September 2012 New Order are touring around the world. If you want to see them live check out their website neworderonline.com.
