What can you tell us about yourself?
I was born in 1979. I graduated from Italian High School and then studied Mechanical Engineering in Istanbul Technical University. In 2002, I represented Turkey in Miss Universe, Puerto Rico. Since 2000, I’ve professionally been attending Turkey Championships for wind surfing. I was the Turkey Slalom Champion for the years 2002, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2010 and 2011. In 2007 and 2009, I was 5th and 6th respectively for PWA Overall. In 2012, I became 3rd in IFCA World. Currently I’m continuing my career in TV as a presentor and actress. I opened the Çağla Kubat Windsurf Academy in Alaçatı, in 2011.
We know that you are a Mechanical Engineer. Have you ever worked as an engineer? How did you start surfing?
Apart from 2 one month internships in a factory that produces electrical products in North Carolina and the Fiat Factory in Bursa, I did not work as an engineer. I started wind surfing in Alaçatı, when I was 15. During my university years, I became a lisenced surfer in Fenerbahçe Sailing Club and started to join competitions.
Have you ever used an analogue camera before?
I used my mom’s camera once, when I was little.
Are you using any other analogue things?
If you were to describe La Sardina in two words, what would they be?
Colorful and light
What would you like to be doing most right now, and what would you want to be shooting?
Actually, I’m where I want to be right now. I’m in Alaçatı, Çağla Kubat Windsurf Academy, where the view always makes me feel peaceful and taking photos of my dogs.
Is there anyone in particular whom you’d like to take photos of?
There is no one special, but I have a great interest in dolphins. I would like to relive a few moments where they were swimming with me when I was surfing, and take photos of those moments.
