UK CitySlicker Hazelbeeves: I See Your Film Box, and I Raise You a Pack of Cards!

In this Tipster article, I’m going to show you how to make a super-wicked-awesome deck of playing cards with the help of a Diana Mini, some Lomography 35mm ISO 800 Color Negative film, and props that were lying around the house. At the time of writing I happened to have a lot of sweets, but you could use whatever you wanted. Anything goes, but the shiner the better!

This new set will be sure to impress even the dullest games partners, so here’s your step-by-step guide:

1. Locate your trusty Diana Mini.

2. Assemble your props.

3. Snap away! You could use any theme, but here I’ve gone for simply objects–the number of items represents the card it is.

4. Character cards are easy too…the circus van represents the JOKER!

5. Rush rush rush to the lab to get your pictures developed, and enjoy!

6. Cut up your pictures into handy card-shaped sizes.

7. Stick them onto card, use old Lomo film camera boxes if you like; everyone loves a recycling connoisseur.

8. Then, cover them with double sided sticky tape. You don’t want grubby finger marks on your pristeen photo cards!

9. Do that until you have enough pictures for all 52 cards in the pack.

10. Lay out your awesome pictures, or playing cards as they are now known, and watch the punters roll in!

Disclaimer: Don’t be surprised if with this set of cards, you happen to strangely out-smart your fellow Poker/Craps/Bridge/Snap players – they will be so captivated by your stylish yet fun set that they will be put off kilter. You may also win all of their money, so be careful to spend those millions wisely!

The Diana Mini is the ultra-compact, petite version of the Diana F+. This camera takes soft-focused, lo-fi images in 35mm and allows you to change between half-format and square shots with a flick of a switch. Get your own Diana Mini now!
