Helen Newcastle AKA Scootiepye shooting with the Lomo LC-A+

2009-08-10 5

What she finds sexy with the LOMO LC-A is that it’s a knickerless kind of camera. Get to know more about Scootiepye as shares more of her thoughts about this little Russian camera!

REAL NAME Helen
CITY Newcastle
COUNTRY United Kingdom

How long have you been a Lomographer?
HN: Registered 2001-08-08 16:41:17 – but I had a Lomo camera a bit before I discovered lomography.com BUT so still about 5 years … well ok 5.5 yrs. My Fist Lomo was a yellow super sampler – I still have it AND it still works – My First LOMO LC-A I bought in Hong Kong.

Describe the LOMO LC-A+ in five words.
S: Sexy, adventurous, wide eyed, seductive, knickerless.

The strangest, funniest, or hands-down greatest photographic/Lomographic encounter that you have ever had.
HN: OK so first off I am NOT going to tell you the greatest story…*coughs. But I will tell you this – I was shooting with a homemade pinhole camera – made from a ‘tin of spam’ I was in my local supermarket and camera was stuffed in my hoody pocket – I shopped and was on my way out the door when the security man stopped me asking me if I had paid for the tin of spam in my hooded top pocket – I looked at him straight in the eyes ’it’s a camera’ I was taken to the office … I laughed a lot they thought I was a strange freak … then on the way home I took a picture of a small plant on the ground – an old lady walked passed me stopped still look at me then looked at the ‘tin of spam’ on the floor and said ‘are you alright dear’ – I just looked at her and smiled.

If your photos shown here could have a soundtrack of three songs, what would they be (song title & artist please).
HN:

  • Tori Amos – A Sorta Fairytale
  • Buck 65 – Roses and Blue Jays
  • Siouxsie and the Banshees – Happy House.

Digital or Analog? Why?
HN: Erm let me think most carefully about this question – ok that tiny second is now over my answer is analogue … because it breathes life and colour hues that give warmth with dimensional depth – Analogue images are still to my eyes richer in everyway to look at … that process from lens, to film, then through chemicals to seeing them in your hand is simply a magical experience, a life event a real ‘part’ of the ether – and well nothing beats that excitement – even better when standing in a dark room processing your very own films…

HN: Digital to me at the moment tries to copy that analogue style and fails – it’s yes speedy and convenient tool to use, no development costs – but digital to me has no soul, no life force you get exactly what you see on that small screen, not special or sometimes mysteriously unique with light leaks or chemical oddities …

HN: Shooting using the average digital camera there is a delay from taking a shot to capturing it even during bright light – not an ‘in the moment camera’ it’s has a slurred delayed reaction. It’s a personal preference both are tools to use to create with – my preference as things stand now is Analogue.

If you could be anywhere, doing anything, right now – where would it be and what would you do?
HN: blinks – do you really want me to answer this question?! Out loud, right here and right now? …it would involve some flexibility…

The absolute best restaurant in your town – something authentic, delicious, and not too pricey. Name & address please.
HN: Bella & Herbs – Heaton Road , Newcastle Upon Tyne – THE best simple as that – more of a diner than a Restaurant however

Things about the LOMO LC-A+ that you love & adore

  • I love the fact it’s not called Penelope.
  • I love the smooth wind on action
  • I adore it’s texture, and the cheeky little glint it has in it’s deep big eye
  • I LOVE The pin sharp lens…

Your advice to future LOMO LC-A+ Lomographers.

  • Don’t wear binocular when using the view finder on the LCA+
  • Always give your LCA+ a good name –I call mine own Stanley (she is a girl)
  • Sleep with your LCA+ camera in your bed AT LEAST once in your life Smile a lot and eat bananas – helps to shoot good Lomographic images…
  • Don’t wear your LCA+ as ear rings – as it bounces off the side of your ear just a bit too much.
  • I also advise not using your LCA+ as a snowboard – it doesn’t work – I tried already, It also does it make a good underwater snorkel…sadly
