Ala Moana Beach Park: Hidden Parts

Ala Moana Beach Park is one of Hawaii’s most well-known areas. So why write another location about this? Because recently, my love and I explored the outskirts of the park and took some wonderful photos that showcase Ala Moana’s more secluded gems.

Ala Moana Beach Park is located between the town area of Honolulu, Hawaii, and Waikiki, the touristy area. It is a long expanse of land that runs across the coast, starting with Magic Island – a man-made, well sculpted piece of land perfect for parks and running, and ends around Kaka’ako Beach Park. My positive review of Kaka’ako will also be published in the near future.

Now, I’m pretty positive that many people have heard of Ala Moana Beach Park, primarily because it is named after Hawaii’s largest mall – Ala Moana. Tourists flock to this mall in bunches, because the mall offers a huge variety of stores to choose from: high-end brand name stores like Chanel and Louis Vuitton, to more affordable, yet great stores like Forever 21 and Gap. Well, the Beach Park is located directly across the street from this mall – you really can’t miss it.

The above photo was taken at the very edge of the Ala Moana Beach Park, where my love and I found a fishing pole simply sitting there by itself, with no owner. This is the perfect example of how there are many little details about Ala Moana Beach Park that are simply stunning, and go beyond the typical water and sand picture that people may have in their heads.

We strolled along the edge of the sand, until we reached the rocky expanse that you can see in the second photo, towards the far end of the sandline. This rocky mass signals the end of Ala Moana Beach Park, but also had many great things to photograph – from the various rock formations to the families that hang out with their surfboards on the side.

Towards the Waikiki edge of the Ala Moana Beach Park, you can catch a glimpse of the iconic Waikiki Beach, and the equally famous Diamond Head landmark.

On the town side of Ala Moana Beach Park, you can see the great cityscape, with its endless condos, business buildings, and various others. I personally love this above photo because it definitely captures how Honolulu is truly a metropolis. However, we must remember that I took this photo while standing on a beach shoreline, so it’s interesting to see how urban meets nature in that Hawaiian way.

See how the Beach Park stretches far beyond the eye can see!

And the waves create great waves, especially if you’re just learning how to surf. The pretty low wave are forgiving to new learners, and also for those who just want to practice.

So c’mon! Bring your pets, friends, and surfboards and check out Ala Moana Beach Park!
