Curtain up at Lomography Austin!

Lomography Austin is hosting a gala event as we screen Apichatpong’s film “Ashes”. Apichatpong, a Thai independent director, has created his artful work completely with the LomoKino, and its debut at the Cannes Film Festival is a cause for celebration!

Champagne is flowing, popcorn is popping… and Austin is waiting with baited breath to see this 35 mm masterpiece.

Apichatpong Weerasethakul is the Cannes Palme d’Or winner of 2010, a prize which is only given to one director per year (unlike the inflationary use of the Oscars). To put into perspective, last years winner was Tree of Life by Texas’ own Terrence Malick. Apichatpong’s movie awarded the Palme d’Or was Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives. Until now, he was shooting digital and recently has explored the analogue life in a very lomographic way. For all movie star fans, Tilda Swinton makes also a short appearance in the movie!

Synopsis: “Ashes” contemplates love, pleasure, and the destruction of memory. The surroundings of everyday life are shared with extreme intimacy. For Apichatpong, Thailand, while full of beauty, is slowly collapsing into darkness.

Curtain goes up at 7:00 pm local time, so come on by for some complimentary refreshments and be among the first in the United States to see this fantastic analogue work of art!
