If she has to choose between water and air, she would definitely choose to be an amphibious creature, making it possible for her to pursue her fascination with the beauty the aquatic world can give! We have Britt with us on her very revealing yet intimate interview!

Share to us your most memorable experience in the Lomographic Community.

My most memorable moment would have to be finding out that I was a runner-up in the Lomography and Petrobras competition, “The Energy That Moves The World.” Of course winning first place including a magical journey to actually visit the amazing land of Rio de Janeiro would have been incredible, but even being selected as a runner-up meant that my photograph was displayed in the Museum of Modern Art. I live almost entirely for art alone, and recognition as great as being included in one of the most prestigious art museums is an honor both astounding and humbling. I also won a shiny new LC-A+ and Krab, and with underwater photography being my biggest passion, it was very much needed to replace my well-loved and thoroughly beat up duo. I was finally able to continue my underwater sharpshooting without pliers to wind the film!

Have you actually met people in the Community that you now consider as close friends? If yes, name at least one of them.

I have Lomography to thank for bringing me together with someone I now consider one of my very best friends. Michelle Rae, or blueskyandhardrock, visited me last summer while travelling the states with her family. Leaving LA, she planned to stop by Saint Augustine to photograph lighthouses, a Spanish fort constructed entirely of tiny coquina shells and protected by canons, old angel-guarded cemeteries, antique carousels and… little ol’ me! I threw her in the water for an underwater shoot, of course. She spent the night with me and we talked all night as if we were childhood friends. We now rarely make any decisions in life without consulting each other first. The connections Lomographers make with each other is one of the greatest and most inspiring aspects of this Community. While blueskyandhardrock is my greatest treasure, I have also found a gem of friendship in Ty Ueda, or fivedayforecast, as well as cultivating new members like jaypeazy, jensandwich, cymbaline and dsk4peace; they were all close friends and amazing analogue photographers that just needed to be introduced to their new family! Also, loloswan and sorenskywalker are my children and pretty swell as well… loloswan even won the “Playground Love” rumble when she was just ten years old.

Do you think you’ll still be taking Lomographs in the next 5 years? Why?

Before the dawn of the digital age, a “photographer” was a “Lomographer,” even though it wasn’t a word yet. I have been a photographer, and therefore a Lomographer, since I was six years old and I will remain as such until either arthritic fingers or death takes my title away. Now that the word “photographer” most often refers to someone who forges reality with pixels instead of paint or emulsion, the birth of a new word was necessary to distinguish between these fraternal twins; a digital photographer is a data analyst or a technician. It is possible to replicate the subject of a Vermeer painting, the same girl, the same sheet music or pearls. A forgery can indeed be beautiful, but can never capture the light, the warmth easily felt on the girl’s cheek. We are translators, poets, painters of light; we are Lomographers.

What is your favorite Lomo camera and why? Do you have any memorable experiences while using this camera?

Is it ok for a parent to have a favorite child…? Please don’t tell anyone I said so, but if I had to pick one at gun point, it would have to be my LC-A+. I am still only getting my feet wet with underwater photography, but I plan to explore my water world until I have introduced every bird to every fish. My LC-A+ and Krab combination is my trusted companion with the strongest sea legs and stomach, so I would have to say that is my favorite.

Is there any advice you can give to new analogue shooters?

If you are passionate about whatever you do in life, including analogue photography, you will most definitely make the world a better place by creating beauty and art, therefore contributing to the human experience. Lomo on!
