Filmmakers from all over the world flock to France for the annual Cannes Film Festival, and it’s always a happy occasion for them to celebrate amongst others who share their craft. Let’s take a look at a few vintage photos of our admired directors.
The photo above shows filmmaker Orson Welles, together with film critic Francois Truffaut, enjoying an outdoor meal together while media personnel take their photos. The photo was taken at the 19th Cannes Film Festival held in 1966, where Welles’ feature film ‘Campanadas a medianoche’ was part of the competition.
Anna Karina, director Jean-Luc Godard’s muse, was a Danish film actress known for her roles in films such as ‘The Little Soldier’, ‘A Woman is a Woman’, and ‘Vivre sa vie’. Godard’s name is often associated with the New Wave French film movement. The photo above was taken at the 15th Cannes Film Festival in 1962, when the actress and the director were still married.
