This month, let’s shift from our biggest state in Malaysia to our most beautiful state, Sabah! We are going to feature some of our most active community members coming from “The Land Below The Wind!” Today, let’s explore Sabah together with Sophia Lo!
Name: Sophia Lo
City/Country: Sandakan Sabah.
LomoAge: 1.5 years
Hello, tell us a bit about yourself and your Lomographic journey.
Hi, I’m Sophia, a local Hakka girl from Sandakan, Sabah. I’m 20 and currently studying at Kuala Lumpur. I love everything in the color green, watching movies and dramas, listening to music, and Lomography! I first started Lomography in December, 2010 and my first analogue camera was the Ultra Wide and Slim. It all happened when I saw a friend of mine, holding a Diana Mini during a gathering. It was so cute and I did some research online, and then I got one for myself.
What’s the best part of shooting with a bunch of Lomography enthusiasts?
I get to know more about analogue cameras by exchanging ideas and our feelings towards analogue photography!
Do you enjoy shooting alone or do you prefer shooting together with the community?
Depends. Sometimes I’ll go out alone with my analogue cameras, have a LomoWalk while shopping. Other than that, I love shooting together with a group of friends who love Lomography as well.
Tell us the most heart-warming moment that ever happened in your life so far?
Two days ago, on a one fine morning, I received a call from a friend asking me to go to the bus station to meet them, but surprisingly my boyfriend came all the way from Australia to visit me! That was the most heart-warming moment in my life, ever!
What is the definition of analogue lifestyle to you?
Photos are memories, a recording of every moment in your life. Each and every photo you take becomes priceless. There isn’t any other thing which can replace the memories like a photograph.
Are you born Sabahrian and where is your location now?
I’m a Sabahan, from a small town Sandakan. I’m currently studying in Kuala Lumpur.
Tell us what you love the most about Sabah.
Fresh air! I love the food in Sabah! It’s delicious and you definitely need to try the seafood when you are in Sabah!
What is the food you love the most in Sabah?
I love the “Dried Mee with Fried Meat” and its special recipe is only available in Sabah. So far, I can’t find anything similar to it an any other place.
Where would you bring your friends to go when they visit you at Sabah
First of all, I’ll bring them to my hometown Sandakan and taste all the food around my hometown, especially the fresh seafood. Besides that, I’ll bring them to National Park at Kundasang. The main attraction at the park is no other than the majestic Mount Kinabalu, one of the highest mountains in South East Asia.
Thanks for your time! Before we wrap things up, do you mind letting us know which Lomography product is your favorite and why?
Actually, I got a few Lomography and analogue cameras, each having its own specialties, such as Fisheye with 170 angle of view, La Sardina with the Big Flash, Ultra Wide and Slim which is my first film camera, Holga 135BC and LC-Wide, it’s my Christmas present for myself. I love the LC-Wide because it’s very user friendly, I can use it indoors or outdoors, day and night. Besides, I love wide angle of the camera. The favorite film that I use is Slide Film Kodak EBX with LC-Wide. For me, it is perfect match!
