Whether you’re taking your kids to the museum, having a romantic picnic at the Wintergarden courtyard, playing sports at the fields, or simply taking a break from the busy city life, Auckland Domain has much to offer! Keep reading for the details!
Just a few minutes away from the bustling city centre is Auckland Domain, the oldest park in Auckland. This park has many features and can cater to just about anyone!
The Wintergarden located within the Auckland Domain, is a haven for nature lovers. It has two huge beautifully-constructed glasshouses that has an ever-changing collection of temperate and tropical plants. In between the two glasshouses is an adjoining open courtyard where you can absorb and appreciate the beautiful setting. I especially adore the building design where the mixture of contrasting glass and brick, makes a wonderful subject for my photo shoots.
If nature is not your thing, you can easily walk to the Auckland Memorial Museum and enjoy the various exhibitions and collections including dinosaur relics, Maori heritage displays, and the new volcanic eruption stimulator. The large white columns outside the museum would make for an excellent photographic backdrop, it’s a very popular spot for wedding photos!
If the above two suggestions doesn’t tickle your fancy, you can always just relax on the field and people watch (one of my favorite activities). The Domain is over 75 hectares and about ten of those have been developed to a sports field. My sister and I enjoy taking her dog out for a walk while our significant others play a friendly game of soccer.
There really is something for everyone at the Auckland Domain.
