This month, let’s shift from our biggest state in Malaysia to our most beautiful state, Sabah! We are going to feature some of our most active community members coming from “The Land Below The Wind!” Today, let’s explore Sabah together with velocity89 a.k.a Joe.
City/Country: Tawau, Sabah.
Hello, tell us a bit about yourself and your Lomographic journey.
Hallo! I’m Joe from Tawau, Sabah! I’m an outgoing person who loves to travel! I’ve been a Lomographer since July of last summer. The first time I came across Lomography was on a shopping website, Amazon. I searched ‘cute camera’ on it and Diana Mini Love is in the Air popped out and caught my eyes. Then I started to go mad about analogue photography after.
We heard that you been studying/staying at oversea for few years. How does it feel like when you are apart from you homeland for so long? Tell us more.
I’m currently studying in UK, Manchester. Studying abroad isn’t so bad, but the only thing that makes me miss Malaysia is FOOD! It’s so hard to find a good Malaysian restaurant in Manchester. And there’s no way to enjoy them as cheap as Malaysia, of course!
Did you meet any LomoFriends during your stay overseas?
Sadly, I did not meet any LomoFriends during the years, but I did invite some of my friends to shoot in films.
Do you enjoy shooting alone or do you prefer shooting together with the community?
I have never shot with community before, but I guess it would be fun.
What’s your favorite photo in your collection and why?
It would be this one. I took it with my LC-Wide in Piccadilly Garden in Manchester while waiting for someone. I saw pigeons flying around the garden and I just simply aimed and clicked on them. Then, I got this picture. Full of surprise. Just like a scene of a movie. And I just love it.
Tell us the most heart-warming moment that ever happen in your life so far?
The most unforgettable photographic experience that I faced before was my first 2 rolls of pictures that I took with my Diana Mini. When I first got the pictures developed, I was totally amazed and heavily addicted to the romantic films! There were way too many surprises for me.
Are you born Sabahrian and where is your location now?
Yes, I was born in Tawau, a tiny little town. I’m now in Manchester, England
Tell us what you love the most about Sabah.
Islands! There are lots of nice islands all around the Sabah.
What is the food you love the most in Sabah?
Tawau Pork Noodle.
Where would you bring your friends to go when they visit you at Sabah
Sipadan! World Class Island! It’s a diving paradise in Sabah.
Where do you develop your film at Sabah? Do you have any other recommendations and what is the price and any other specific notes?
I always develop my films at a shop named (OCEAN). They still develop films but they couldn’t scan them properly.
Thanks for your time and recommendation! Before we wrap things up, do you mind letting us know which Lomography product is your favorite and why?
My favorite Lomo gadget is the LC-Wide. I like the wide angle lens that can capture almost everything you see with your eyes!
