For their first task, the US CitySlickers will show us around their towns and cities, documenting their experiences in analogue and telling us stories along the way. Let’s meet Jeff and learn more about New York City!
Name: Jeff Eng
City: New York
Occupation: Freelance Percussionist
Hey Lomo friends! My name’s Jeff. JeffR’s a nickname my sister gave me – my middle initial is R and she thought it was funny that JeffR sounds like the villain from Aladdin. I’ve been playing drums and percussion since I was about 9 and today (almost a year out of college) I’m a freelance percussionist, playing various gigs in and out of New York City. I’ve been shooting analogue photography as a hobby for the past year and a half and I joined the Lomography community about 6 months ago. Knowing little about cameras, I got a Holga 120N and dove into the world of analogue photography.
I was born and raised in New York City – more specifically I was born in Manhattan and raised in Brooklyn. In fact, over the past 5 years I’ve gone from living in Brooklyn to Manhattan, then back to Brooklyn, and I just moved back to Manhattan (into the Lower East Side) 2 weeks ago! The reason for all the back and forth was from dorming at New York University, followed by moving into various apartments.
New York is a beautiful city and perfect for photographing what I love best – architecture and street photos.
As I’ve lived here my whole life and only began taking photos of this city a year and a half ago, I feel that there’s a lot of catching up to do. And so I’m really excited to be your New York CitySlicker. I hope you’ll stay tuned as I share my adventures taking photographs of this amazing city and (hopefully) exciting gigs as well!
