Myeongdong is my favorite and highly-recommended shopping area in Seoul which features mid- to high-end stores and international brand outlets. Besides, this is a great place where you can get a nice variety of delicious local foods. It is a “must” visit for young people and tourists as it is also a center for sightseeing.
How to get there:
- Subway Line 4 (Myeongdong Station), Exit 5, 6, 7 or 8
- Subway Line 2 (Euljiro Il-ga Station), Exit 5
Myeongdong has something for everyone. Accessories, shoes, clothes, and many other mid-to-high priced items, you’ll find it all here. Street vendors to big-name brands all are selling here. This area is offers a comfortable place to shop and you will not feel too packed even if it is crowded. Some bargaining may be done with the street vendors.
For us, Myeongdong is all about shopping and trying out the local food. We found a lot of delicious food in Myeongdong. Many restaurants in Myeongdong specialize in pork cutlets and kalguksu (thick noodles). We tried grilled squid bought from a street vendor and the taste was amazing. The boss is really handsome and friendly. He can’t really communicate in English but he had to try hard to understand us and served us with his great smile. Besides that, we had our dinner in a porridge restaurant during our first visit to Myeongdong. It tasted good and we loved it.
How much do we love Myeongdong? We made our second visit to Myeongdong right after we were back from Busan and Gyeongju. The place we spent our last night in Seoul was Myeongdong. We had our dinner here as well as during our second visit. This time, we ate Korean glass noodles with seafood. The taste surprised us and it is really delicious. The most memorable thing to happen to my sister and I was experiencing the first snow fall of our life and it happened at Myeongdong.
I love Myeongdong and this is a place that I highly recommended to you all.
