On their first task, the US CitySlickers will show us around their towns and cities, documenting their experiences in analogue and telling us stories along the way. Let’s meet Gimel and read about his life in Austin.

Hello world! I’m excited to have the opportunity to write an on-going series that combines a place I love and a hobby I love. Let me tell you a bit about myself. I was born at a very young age in a part of Texas they refer to as “The Valley,” so I’m considered a native Texan.
When I was about six months old my family moved to California.
That’s where I spent the rest of my formative years and met my favorite wife, Minerva.
We were married in San Diego.
We spent some time in San Jose, California (Do you know the way to San Jose?). Finally, we ended up following my job with IBM to Austin, Texas where my favorite wife just happened to be born a few years earlier. She’s a native Texan too. That’s how I ended up in Austin. I’ve been here for nearly fourteen years, and I haven’t looked back.
What can I say about the most Austin-tatious city in the world? Austin’s motto is “Keep Austin Weird” and the city certainly lives up to it. Austin is the Capital of Texas, and Texas is the most important state in the union.
Austin is home to two major annual music festivals — South by Southwest, simply called “South by” by those in the know, and Austin City Limits, or ACL. As of this year, Austin is also home to Formula One Racing. Last year we got our own Lomography Gallery Store!
There are lots of fun places to shoot around town. One of my favorites is South Congress.
That’s it for now. I look forward to sharing more about my favorite city with “y’all”!
