Lo and behold at the Crestview Train Station is Black Star Coop Brewery and Restaurant. Found on the Metro line, it’s the only cooperatively-owned brewery across the globe. Pretty amazing to have a Coop Brewery open to anyone in the Austin community. I had a fresh beer in one hand and my lomo cameras in the other. I was one happy Lomographer!
Black Star offers 4 to 6 in-house brewed beers and 20 other commercial taps. Expect the in-house brews to have a very fresh blend of grains, fruits, and spices. While enjoying a nice locally-brewed beer, try the great menu of locally-harvested foods and ingredients. I was pretty impressed with my Elba beer and plate of fish and chips. Black Star Coop is an all around one-of-a-kind local experience.
Where else can you find a community-run brewery that’s dog friendly and has a full menu of responsibly harvested foods? Only in Austin, Texas! Black Star definitely receives the Austin stamp of approval. If you like this concept, anyone can become a member. Take a train ride around town, grab a beer, and support local business all in the same day! Cheers Lomofriends!
