After driving more than 1000km from Lima, we finally arrived at a small but busy town in the northern coast of Peru. It might be full of tourists most of the year but it’s still my favorite place to rest from the crowd of the big city. Sun, beach, great food, drinks, and awesome people…that’s what I always find in Mancora.
After 17 hours of traveling from a city of 11 million people, driving through a very hot desert – and when you see nothing but sand and an infinite blue sky; suddenly it will appear to you – a small, green sign next to the road. The moment you read: “Mancora” on it, you will know you’re soon arriving to the most popular beach in all of Peru.
This place has it all! You can find calm, quiet, and fancy hotels (if that’s what you’re looking for) or if you wanna do it the “Mancora way”, you can check in to one of the many backpacker hostels in town. Actually, this is the favorite choice when looking for accommodations because of the pool-parties they have every night! But activities here are not just limited to partying. The hostels are full of fantastic people from all over the world who you can chat with, have some drinks, sleep in one of the many hammocks, chill out on the sand or just do whatever you want to do.
In the Boulevard, a small street that leads to the beach; you can find many places to have great seafood, hamburgers, pasta, pizza, whatever your hunger demands! There is also a great variety of drinks, snacks, and stores for souvenirs. You will be surprised when you realize that you can even get a nice tattoo or some dreads for your hair, all in this small, one block street.
But perhaps, my favorite place is still the beach. I found the warm blue ocean of Mancora relaxing and beautiful. And the sky is so clear that you can see a never-ending horizon…simply gorgeous! I took three cameras with me and a bunch of films loaded on them and I returned with some of the best photos I’ve ever got. That’s why I’d like to share them with you in this Locations feature, I really hope you like them as much as I do. :)
