This month, let’s go across the South China Sea and hit the shore of East Malaysia! We are going to feature some of our most active community members located in Sarawak! Today, let’s explore the biggest state of Malaysia together with maduz!
Name: Mohammad Firdaus Bin Ghazali
City/Country: Kuching, Sarawak
Hello, tell us a bit about yourself and your Lomographic journey.
My name is Firdaus Ghazali, but my friends address me as Maduz ever since high school. I’m 22 years old. I’m from Kuching, Sarawak. And as I remember, I have loved taking photos since I was 4 years old. I got to know what Lomography is from a friend of mine – Wandy Saeit! .
Are you part of any local community? If so, since when have you been active in the community?
Yes, I’m a part of Lomohunter @ Analog Garage. It started when Wandy Saeit tagged me on some photos that he had taken with the Lomo LC-A. At first, I was not into this Lomography phenomenon, but after a while, I slowly developed my interest. Then, I joined the Lomohunter @ Analog Garage community in Facebook and LSI (Lomographic International Society) to learn more on what Lomography is all about. I have been a member of Lomography since 2009.
Did you join any outings, workshops, and events organized by this community?
Yes, I did join their outings and events. Furthermore, my friends and I had organized an event to introduce Lomography to high school students in SMK ST. Joseph, Kuching. We are planning to do more activities in most of the schools in Sarawak soon.
What is the best thing about shooting with the community?
The best part for me about shooting with the community is you can exchange ideas and films!
And the worst?
You cannot meet all of them in one place at one time.
Do you enjoy shooting alone or do you prefer shooting together with the community?
I would say both. Sometimes I prefer to walk alone with my Lomo LC-A, and sometimes I love to be in a group.
Were you born Sarawakian and which part of Sarawak do you stay?
I’m a Sarawakian, staying at Kuching and I’m currently studying in MMU Melaka.
Tell us what do you love the most about Sarawak?
I love the food and the bond between races in Sarawak.
What is the food you love the most in Sarawak?
Where would you bring your friends to go when they visit you at Sarawak?
I would most probably bring them around the city of Kuching. We have lots of interesting places to go to.
Where do you develop your film at Sarawak? Do you have any other recommendations and what is the price and any other specific notes?
I’m a regular customer at the Apollo Lab, situated near the Old Court Kuching. The price for developing and scanning would be RM15, and do not forget to mention that you are a Lomography enthusiast. LOL!
Show us your favorite photo in your collection and why?
My favorite would be a picture of my best friend with his younger brother. He was teaching his younger brother how to use La Sardina before we went for an outing.
Thanks for your time and recommendation! Before we wrap things up, do you mind letting us know which Lomography product is your favorite and why?
The Mother of Lomo; Lomo LC-A, because of its wonderful Russian Lens and vignette produced by it. Plus, I can bring my LC-A anywhere and anytime I want to!
