It was another gorgeous, sunny day in San Francisco, and there’s no better way to spend it than with a LomoKino workshop! A group of analogue-hungry Lomographers gathered together to learn everything there is to know about the 35mm movie maker!
Since the early days of film making, San Francisco has always been a popular place for movie backdrops and commercials. Naturally, the LomoKino feels right at home here! This camera is all about capturing the movement around you. Thankfully in downtown SF everything is in motion!
Our future filmmakers learned about everything the LomoKino has to offer. From it’s continuous aperture and focusing to its innovative hand crank, and even some pro techniques and tips on steadying and shooting.
After the class, we stepped out of the store to take a stroll. Everybody was eager and full of ideas, and it was time to put them into action. It was an unseasonably beautiful day, so we decided the best place to make a 35mm movie is by the sea! Even the journey to the piers was full of interesting sights, and we couldn’t resist stopping to shoot here and there. By the time we got to the Embarcadero, we were pumped for our films and we couldn’t stop the film from rolling! Check out what some of our local Lomographers shot:
The Bay Bridge proved to be a gorgeous background shot, especially in Aim2Run’s love story. She definitely had on her director’s hat on that day and shot a seven-roll epic, which a lot of the group was a part of! See the cuts from her mini-movie below:
Thanks to Amy and Jennifer for sharing their videos with us! If you missed the chance to join us, we’ll have more exciting LomoKino workshops in the near future. Keep an eye out on what else we have this month on our workshop schedule and be sure to RSVP! Until then, always remember to take your camera everywhere you go!
