With his series “Time”, John Clang creates a very special picture of room and time. His works show how different timelines get together at a particular place. The surroundings stay the same but the people change this environment.
John Clang goes to well-known places throughout New York such as Times Square, Wall Street or the Brooklyn Bridge. Time goes by and people are going on their own way. John Clang lets these people move together and creates a new understanding of time. His collages make observers think.
Everyone knows those quickened film scenes, when movement is shown in fast motion. John Clang manages to bring such scenes together in just one picture. All the people move in the same space, just displaced by temporal delay. Those timelines mostly move parallel, but in the series “Time” they move together.
That’s what the artist himself says about his work:
“(…) Working on this series, I explore how time moves in this seemingly static urban space. The people become the moving energy flowing through this space, marking the changes, forming the time. (…)”
