Fashion Photography with Lomography

In the theme of fashion week, Lomography Gallery Store Toronto held its own fashion photography workshop, Lomography style!

We began with a lecture on the history of fashion photography focusing on the father of fashion photography himself: the great Richard Avedon! We were greatly inspired by his use of black and white 120 film to achieve his iconic shots. Then we went over the basics of studio lighting, let loose and experimented with our Lomography cameras to see how they held with studio lighting and we were quite surprised with the results!

Using a variety of cameras including the classic Diana F+, and due to the strength of studio flashes which produces a lot of light, we used Lomography Black and White film ISO 100 and X-PRO 200 because they are both less sensitive to light.

Being inspired, we then let our creativity guide us as we photographed our fashion model! To achieve the classic look just like Avedon, we used a darker background and even lighting – one strobe light on each side of the camera – and focused on capturing head and shoulder shots as our model posed away.

The classic lighting, black and white film paired this with the amazing look that our Lomography cameras produce, soft focus, light leaks, and grain, we produced our very own Lomo-fashion shoot! Check out the photos and tell us what you think!
