Situated at the heart of one of Seoul’s most vibrant districts is one of Seoul’s most relaxed bars. Roots Time is a cozy, chilled out bar with friendly staff, reasonably-priced drinks, and where reggae is always playing.
Finding Roots Time is fairly simple, just exit Hongik station via exit 9 and immediately turn left then take your second right up the tree-lined street. Roots Time is about halfway down this road on the right-hand side. Just look for the wooden sign above the door and head downstairs into the tiny world of Roots Time.
Eclectically decorated with flyers, posters, vinyl, and other assorted reggae memorabilia Roots Time is run by a Japanese expat and his wife who are always friendly and welcoming. Requests for reggae tunes are usually met with a smile as he seems to have an encyclopedic knowledge of all things reggae.
Generally a relaxed place to warm up before a night out or cool off afterwards, Roots Time occasionally explodes into a grooving skank den of movers and shakers. When the sound system comes out, everyone gets down, and fixed grins are the order of the day.
Roots Time is an evening and nighttime establishment and is always a fun place to be if you love reggae.
