Oh my dayz! Dere woz sum well wicked workshops evry wknd in Burmingham? Why ddnt u tell me bruv? I did! And now here’s a jolly lovely recap to tell you about all the fabulous frivolities you missed, you silly talking person, you!
The good ship SS Lomography hailing all the way from Vienna, Austria has made landfall and moored up in Birmingham bringing with it a whole host of Lomography mischief!
Over the past 4 weeks, all kinds of Lomography shenanigans and ridiculously exciting workshops have been taking place within Birmingham City Centre under the watchful eye of the kind and friendly staff from the shop-in-shop pop up market in Selfridges!
To ensure all enthusiastic Lomographers set sail on the right course the first two workshops in February were dedicated to tales from the high seas and regaling those that had come to listen about a brief history on Lomography and the strange and wonderful cameras that come along with it, before heading out into the open air to shock and amaze our new ship mates with some wonderful analogue love.
We took our rugged adventurers to a brisk trip along New Street to the impressive architecture, gigantic television screen and awe inspiring water features surrounding the City Hall, before leading the way, via the mind blowing owl artwork that adorns the outside of the Central Library, to the Canal Basin and along the canal for a relaxed and tranquil afternoon of photography goodness.
In the third week, we focused on the queen of the high seas and all-round plastic heart-throb, the Diana F+. With her soft focus charm and her dramatic vignetting she still managed to steal the hearts of the locals even if she had to battle against some inclement weather!
And in the fourth and final week of February, a dedicated crew of budding cinematographers experienced the mysterious and charming Lomokino, learning first hand on how to squeeze every drop of goodness out of it’s rotating hand crank and it’s super fast focus lens. After a quick briefing of it’s features and a micro movie marathon in store, we intrepid film makers jumped into the thick of Birmingham’s weekend crowds to record the city’s hustle and bustle underneath the beating hot sun.
The most photographed balloon salesman in all of Birmingham
All this action and yet so much more to come, throughout March and April, the ship mates at Lomography Birmingham will be running all manner of workshops for total newcomers or dyed-in-the-wool Lomographer’s alike, so hoist the flag, raise the sails and come on down to plunge into a new world of film fun and photography mischief as we celebrate arriving in the West Midlands over the next few months!
Booking a place on one of our adventures is super simple, just pop into Selfridges and make your way to the first floor and pounce on one of the staff to add your name to the party. Tickets are £20 which gets you a loan-a-camera, some film to get you started, a super generous 10% off film and processing with our very own Lomolab, oh and a treasure trove of advice, stories, and tipsters to get you off on the right foot!
