Mike DeAngelis, the Arkells’ vocalist and guitarist, and the photographer/Lomographer of the band, captured some of their experiences during the ‘Michigan Left’ of the band tour with the rest of the band members, Max, Anthony, Nick, and Tim! Read on as Mike shares with us what happened during their video shoot in Hamilton Ontario.
We wanted to use the video for our song Michigan Left as an opportunity to showcase all the beauty we’ve come to see in Hamilton, Ontario, which is where the band formed and now calls home. My favourite photos from the video shoot were taken in Cootes Paradise around sunset – we threw around some smoke bombs which created a very hazy, dreamy effect in the final photographs. Because I process my own film, I almost exclusively shoot in black and white. As a result, I was excited to shoot the ISO 800 speed colour negative film I got from Lomography — it created an unexpected but ultimately pretty cool grain on the colour photos from the shoot.
