It’s mondo mono mania as we check out the best, remarkable and most interesting black and white photos in this edition of Photos of the Week!
Photos of the Week is back in black! This time we’re going back to basics and focusing on the medium that defines analog photography: black & white. This is what got most of us started in the first place. Do you remember that distinctive smell of developer and fixer brewing magic in your make shift darkroom downstairs or the dingy one at school? I sure do! And a quick look at the Photos page would tell that you guys still do as well!
There’s just something about black & white shots. It maybe the incredible amount of contrast, the finest grain no digital sensor can replicate, the eerie noir feel or even just purely the nostalgia it gives you. If you haven’t started shooting in mono, try out Ilford HP5 and Kodak Tri-X to get you started – both are considered two of the best B&W films out there! If you don’t have access to a darkroom, you can still get on the black & white train with Ilford XP2 and have it developed like regular film.
So without any delay and further ado whatsoever, here’s this week’s monochromatic selections! Enjoy!
Not all photographs are meant to be seen in vibrant, saturated colors, and neither are they always suitable for in black and white. Lomography welcomes yet another innovation from KONO! The Reanimated Film. Without diminishing the aesthetic value of images, KONO! Donau 35mm Film casts a distinct blue tone to photos. It is ultra-low ISO film that is best used for long exposure shots. Check out this fine selection of uniquely tinted images.
It's time to show off those photos you've whisked away in your hard drive! Pick out your favorites and have them printed as genuine black & white analogue prints - on natural stone tiles. Say hello to Shots/on\Stone, a Kickstarter project that offers this truly unique option.
They say black-and-white is the soulmate of street photography, as it transcends the essence of the photographs in to works of art. Mexico-based photographer Moisés Rodríguez's geometrical urban collection is proof of his monochromatic mastery.
