When visiting “Parque das Nações” in Lisbon, the former location of the Expo98, no one can resist taking a picture of the colorful, water-spitting volcanoes.
The Water Volcanoes are located in “Parque das Nações”, the former location of the World Expo 1998 in Lisbon. They are one of the many constructions that remained after the exhibition and are still, today, a big attraction in the complex.
There are six fountain volcanoes placed along a big boulevard, “Alameda dos Oceanos”, and each has a distinct combination of colored tiles made by the Portuguese ceramics factory, “Viúva Lamego”.
They are all connected by a water channel and make a regular water eruption. In the summertime, when the city can get really hot, it’s very nice to stay next to the volcanoes waiting for the big water splash! Just don’t forget to empty your pockets before!
You can learn more about the construction of this charming fountains and the water system here. And since you are at it, spend some hours visiting “Parque das Nações”, there many other photo opportunities waiting for you!
