I Present the Song, Kodachrome

2012-03-31

A song about Kodachrome? Oh yes! It is a song by Paul Simon. Learn more about the song and see the video after the break.

Simon was the composer of the duo Simon & Garfunkel, authors of several successful albums as Bridge Over Troubled Water (1970). Prior to joining Garfunkel, Simon had written and recorded over 30 songs between 1957 and 1964, the duo recorded their first album with Columbia Records.

He wrote Kodachrome in 1973, released on their album “There Goes Rhymin ’Simon”, which reached No. 2 on the charts, earning a gold record!

Kodachrome

When I think back
On all the crap I learned in high school
It’s a wonder
I can think at all
And though my lack of education
Hasn’t hurt me none
I can read the writing on the wall

Kodachrome
They give us those nice bright colors
They give us the greens of summers
Makes you think all the world’s a sunny day, Oh yeah
I got a Nikon camera
I love to take a photograph
So mama don’t take my Kodachrome away

If you took all the girls I knew
When I was single
And brought them all together for one night
I know they’d never match
my sweet imagination
And everything looks worse in black and white

Kodachrome
They give us those nice bright colors
They give us the greens of summers
Makes you think all the world’s a sunny day, Oh yeah
I got a Nikon camera
I love to take a photograph
So mama don’t take my Kodachrome away
