Another Angle on Lomography's Third Rule

Lomography sometimes is about errors. You think you are taking a beautiful photo, but you choose the wrong light or the bad angle.

Lomography sometimes is about errors. You think you are taking a beautiful photo, but you choose the wrong light or the bad angle. But otherwise, sometimes a error can be a great thing. I bet everyone has it’s great mistake. A mistake that makes the photo really great, better than you had imagine when you shoot.

But, most of the times it’s your mistakes. You made it wrong (or right, who cares?) and the result may be great. But a days ago, the mistake was made for other guy.

I was in my photo shop, and was some kind of a problem with the printer. So, the only thing made was the revelation. I grab my film and take it to another shop. (I forgot, the film was a slide one).

In the other shop I’d asked for normal pictures, I’d said something like “just print, nothing else”. Few hours later when I get there, the photos was all in black and white. Seems that the printer assume by accident that the film was black & white one. As I was protesting, I’d saw all the photos… And, guys, some was great. Really beautiful.
I’ve order new prints but at the same time I was really liking that ones.. The colour was so well balanced…. What to do? Well “I take it all”. And the shop gave me all the black & white that I choose. All that I’d paid was the colours ones.

So, the meaning of all of this?
I’ve always thought that third rule “Lomography is not an interference in your life, but part of it.” was only for lomographer’s.
I was wrong.

Lomography it’s part of everyone’s life.
Starting in you, finishing on the guy who print your films, the space between it’s life. Yours and everyone you know.

you're right, the mistake is part of the lomographic creation... and when the result is great the surprise and fascination for lomography becomes stronger!!! Did you include some of these pics in your post, because I can't see anyone (bug?) and I'd really like to see them! :)))

I had the same thing happen to me once, and I also got the b&w prints for free. I kept many of them, like you. I put them in a photo album, matched with the color versions (which were good too!)

Lomography has taught me to embrace the imperfections. Life is much more fun that way. Great article!
