A Walk in Haw Par Villa

Interested in shooting figurines? There’s a place where you’d get to do this in Singapore. There are lots of interesting figurines to look at and shoot. It is Haw Par Villa (Chinese: 虎豹別墅), it’s a Chinese mythological theme park in Singapore located along Pasir Panjang Road. It was built in the early 1970s by two brothers namely Aw Boon Haw and Aw Boon Par and its original name was Tiger Balm Garden. It was brought over by the Singapore Tourism Board in 1988.

Most of the figurines in Haw Par Villa are related to Chinese culture such as Chinese novels etc. A must-visit will be the “Tenth Level of Hell Court”, it is an indoor viewing of the illustration of the hell court according to Chinese context. Inside you will get to see figurines of the hell guards, judge, and souls around. But I would suggest that if you wanna visit this section, it would be better to go in at least as a pair. It’s kinda creepy and dark. There are other attractions like the Jade House, which displays the collection of Jades by the Aw Family, the Water Garden, and live fishes.

Like what I mentioned earlier on, there are lots of figurines around, and if you continue to walk to the inside of the park, there’s a scowling 7,000kg gorilla, a monstrous sumo wrestler, The Statue of Liberty, Thai Dancers, a panda, ostrich, a koala bear, and many more. Getting to Haw Par Villa is no longer difficult because there’s a train station for Haw Par Villa now. So come on down to Haw Par Villa and have a great time shooting.
