Lake Garda (Italian Lago di Garda or Benaco)

Put on your sunglasses and enjoy the dolce vita on Lake Garda !

Lake Garda is the largest lake in Italy. It is located in northern Italy, at only 30 km from Verona, 100 km of Milan, and 130 km from Venice. The lake is 51km long but only 17km wide at its widest point in the south. The distance around the lake is 158km. It is an alpine region and was formed by glaciers at the end of the last ice age.

The northern part of the lake is narrower, surrounded by the mountains. Picturesque villages, medieval castles, and lakeside promenades dot the shoreline. The lake has a diverse landscape with beaches along the southern shores and rocky cliffs above the northern shoreline. Lake Garda is known for its clear water, great for swimming in summer. Windsurfing, sailing, and hiking in the lake’s many parks are popular activities. A rich vegetation flourishes thanks to the Mediterranean climate : lemon trees, olanders, magnolias, and bouganville. The cultivation of vineyards and olive groves produces good wine and olive oil. Here are pictures of Sirmione, Malcesine, Riva del Garda, Torri del Benaco, and Gardone Riviera.
