A must-visit attraction at the heart of Malacca.
Jonker Street also known as Chinatown or Jalan Hang Jebat is one of Malacca’s main attractions. It is the ‘antiques’ of Malacca where you can find old distinct buildings and shops selling antiques, rare and unique collectibles, crafts, clothes, accessories, and souvenirs.
There are many cafes and restaurants that sell tasty delicacies to satisfy your taste buds. You’ll find many hawkers selling food too when you walk along the street. Jonker Street is famous for its Cendol, a traditional dessert consisting of coconut milk and green jelly made from rice flour. You can find other local foods here like Curry Noodles and Chicken Rice Ball.
Due to its historical value, Malacca has been declared as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO on July 7, 2008. Malacca reflects a mixture of Malay, Chinese, Indian, and colonial culture, originating in the Dutch or Portuguese periods.
During Friday, Saturday, and Sunday there will be a Night Market from 6.00pm to 12.00am where there will be additional stalls happening on this street where you can discover the ‘night side’ of Jonker Street.
